In early 1962, Pope John XXIII called a great gathering in Rome. Cardinals, Bishops, lay people and even non-Catholic leaders from around the world were invited to this “Ecumenical Council” which came to be known as The Second Vatican Council. He was inspired by the Holy Spirit to “throw open the windows to let the wind of the Spirit blow through the Church.” He asked that a special prayer for the Council be recited at every Mass celebrated during that time, which began:
“Renew Your wonders in this our day, as by a new Pentecost”.
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is one answer to that prayer. A conscious commitment to Jesus as Lord and Savior, a personal relationship with Him, and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit through the gifts and graces of a personal Pentecost is what impels us to want to share the Good News in this era of New Evangelization.
